Our Mama of the Month Ingrida Schaefer juggles an active 5 year old and a toddling 14 month old, a household and is completing her second degree, a demanding Bachelor of Science in psychology degree (without a nanny). Discussing being a student Super Mama with Ingrida is inspiring. She has boldly allowed herself to follow her passion – choosing not to allow decisions she made as younger woman, dictate the next phases of her life.
Ingrida knows that being a mother is challenging but realizes that being a mother and true to your self can lead to a sort of identity crisis. This can leave you feeling confused and “sort of disembodied”. Ingrida gets around this by making sure that she finds time for herself, even if it’s just half an hour. In this time, she resists the temptation to work and instead reads inspiring books or writes in a journal that she’s been keeping for years now.
More and more women are using their maternity leave as time to evaluate careers and consider retraining. For some it happens when the kids are finally in school, for some it’s a way to get a better work life balance, for some it’s a way of finding and nourishing the woman who is someone other than a wife and a mother. If you’re considering study, then the question to ask yourself is whether you are happy where you are right now? If not, be brave and know that change can be hard, but not changing can be even harder.
1. What is your Philosophy?
Everything is possible! Becoming a mother does not mean life has to stop. If you have a dream or something you always wanted to do, today is a good time to plan and visualise it. Anthony Robbins calls it personal power, which means the ability to act. For those who act everything is possible.
2. What is your ‘get through anything’ tip?
When I have to go through a difficult and exhausting time, which usually occurs when least expected, I always remind myself that everything has got an end and most importantly, to take thousand little steps rather than one big step.
3. What is your ultimate health/fitness tip?
It is very simple but it works:
For your body: exercise and eat well
For your soul and mind: always keep in touch with friends and make new friends.
